Susan md. 2nd) John Sweet 1 Jan 1857 Franklin Co., Illinois. (Mary Lach, 2007)  She is Elizabeth Sweet age 45 b VA in the 1860 Benton, Franklin Co, IL census.  Susan E. is age 56 in the 1870 Williamson Co census with her son Marion, p. 97.  She is still living with her son F Marion Worsham in the 1880 Herrins Prairie, Williamson, IL census as Susan E. Worsham age 67 b VA.

1A.1.  Louisa Catharine Worsham b abt 1817 VA m. Andrew Brown 11 Oct 1837 Wilson Co, TN.  Louisa was incorrectly placed on page 480 of our book.  A potential relative, Wm. Brown age 25 b. NC, lived next door to the William Branch Worsham family in 1860 Independence, Phillips Co, AR census.

1A.2.  Archibald Newton Worsham b 1819 VA. (30-1850)  Archibald was incorrectly placed on page 479 & 480 of our book.  Archibald m Judith A Collins 17 Dec 1843 Henderson Co, KY.  He is listed as A. N. Worsham.  Arch N. Warshum had a mortgage with Harbison Butler for $1.00 because he was indebted to sd Butler. Archer N. Worsham was indebted to James S. Priest. One note was due 6 May 1842 & one was due 2 Aug 1842.  He sold crops of tobacco & corn to pay the notes. He is indebted to J. S. Priest for $135 due 16 Mar 1847. He sold a crop of corn & tobacco. He also stock to pay for a note due 17 Mar 1847.  They are listed in the 1850 Henderson Co., KY census, p 293.  He is age 30 b VA and she shown as Juliet age 24 b KY. Archibald d bef 1856 when Juliet A. Worsham md A. E. Dowdle on 2 Jun 1856.

1A.3.  Mary Jane Worsham b abt 1821 VA. (29-1850)  Mary is on page 480 of our book.  She m Martin Friley Galloway 21 Feb 1839 Hibbardsville, Henderson, KY.  Martin b 1817 KY s/o Zacharia Galloway & Sarah Friley.  Mary d 1852 Evansville, KY.  After Mary d Martin md Lucy A. McClure 23 Dec 1852 Henderson Co., KY.

Daniel Boon Galloway b 29 Jan 1852 Henderson Co, KY (Henderson Co, KY Births) 8-1860; 18-1870; 28-1880 m Alice J DeMoss 3 May 1882 Henderson Co, KY.  He did not die Dec 1897 but is in the 1900 Coydon, Henderson, KY census age 48 b Jan 1852 with wife Allie age 37 b Mar 1863 m 18 years 8/6 & children: Annie age 17 b Mar 1883; Wayne age 14 b Aug 1885; Wallace age 12 b Jul 1887; Albert age 10 b Jan 1890; Cora age 8 b Oct 1891; Robert age 6 b Feb 1894.

1A.4.  William Branch Worsham b abt 1823 VA. (27-1850; 37-1860)  He m. Maria Caroline Green 17 Oct 1844 Wilson Co, TN.  Maria b abt. 1826 TN, had a brother James C. Green b abt 1824 TN.  James Green lived next to the Worsham family in the 1860 Independence, Phillips, Arkansas census along with the Yarbrough family.  It is believed William's daughter, Mary C. Worsham, married into this Yarborough family. Maria Wursham age 40 b TN, a seamstress, is in the 1870 Russellville, Logan Co, KY census living in the home of Henry C Harper age 26 b KY, James A Harper age 58 b MD, Julia A Harper age 64 b VA, Sarah L Harper age 22 b KY & Maud Wursham age 7 b AR.

1A.4.2.  Mary C. Worsham b abt 1847 TN. (3-1850; 13-1860; 23-1870)  Phillips Co, AR mrg records has a marriage of Mollie Worsham & B. Y. Yarbrough on 8 Dec 1864.  However, according to census records, his name appears to be Archibald . Yarbrough.  They are in the 1870 Texas, St Francis, AR cens as Arch Yarbourrough age 26 b AR & Mary age 23 b TN.

He m. 2nd) Mississippi E Weldon 16 Nov 1846 Weakley Co, TN.  She was b. abt. 1828 in TN.  He was a farmer in the 1860 S Range 2 W, Union, Illinois census as Thos Washam age 34 b VA & Mississippi age 33.  The elder Thomas is on page 400 of the 1870 Hickman Co, KY and the younger Thomas is on page 407 of the census.  Living with the family in the 1880 Hickman Co, KY census was William Vincent age 20 b KY.

 

He was Thomas Worsham of Columbus, KY when he m. 3rd) Miss. Elizabeth Hineman of St Louis, MO on 1 Oct 1880 in St Louis, MO.

 

Thomas Worsham m. 4th) Rachel Lucy Bone "Lute" 1 Oct 1882 both being of age, married by J L Bone JP & wit: J C Evans, Allen Courtney & William Brazzell. (Hickman Co KY Marriages Mar 1822- Oct 1874 Vol. I and Marriages Dec 1868 - Nov 1895 Vol II, pub 1999 Hickman Co Historical Society, Clinton, KY: Vol II p 105)  Rachel m next Miles Oliver Vinson 1 Apr 1892 Hickman, KY.

Vearl Lene (Davis) Mosier, 2003, wrote:

The Worsham's, Vinson's and Bone's are all intermarried; my grandfather James Henry Vinson had a half brother named Thomas Worsham. He lived in East Prairie, MO till he died in 1962. I was about 11 years old and I do remember him well. He looked just like my grandfather, who died when I was 3. They had the same mother, Rachael Lucy Bone md a Vinson, then a Worsham, then another Vinson, M. O. Vincent. She would be my great grandma on my mothers side. My fathers mother was a Bone and that makes them related too. Thomas Worsham md Rachael Lucy Vinson 10/11/1882 by J. L. Bone JP with witnesses, J. Evans and Allen Courtney and Wm. Brazzell. From the 1880 Hickman Co cens, Thomas Worsham was 56 years old and a farmer. There is no wife listed, but there are 5 children, Mary age 20, Missonia C age 15, Sarah F. age 13, Dora Bell age 8, and Masutta age 6. I found out that Sarah F. md H. B. Scott 16 Aug 1881 at her fathers home. The Tommy Worsham I remember had no children. He and his wife, Evie Mae Warren, adopted a son Thomas Lloyd Worsham b Aug 31, 1936. He lives in St. Louis.

Jo Ann Kurtz, 1998, wrote:

“ my ggrandmother's (Martha Ada Vinson Bone) sister or cousin, not sure which, was named Lute Vinson. Lute's married name was Worsham."

(22-1910) Thomas md 1st) Bertha E abt. 1908 of Hickman Co, KY.  They are in the 1910 Hickman Co, KY cens. as Thomas Worsham age 22 b KY & Bertha E age 16 b KY.  Nearby are his mother, Lucy Vinson age 53 b KY, a widow, her son Lonnie Vinson age17 b MO, and James T Bone age 46 b KY. He m 2nd) Evie Mae Warren.

 

This photo is courtesy Claudia Albertson, 2008.  On the back is written Tommie Warsham.  Claudia's father is Henry Lee Mitchell whose grandmother was Dora Belle Worsham who married Anderson Crain. The photo is believed to be this Thomas since it was in the possession of his half sister, Dora Belle Worsham.

Jo Ann Kurtz, 1998, writes:

Ggrandmother's (Martha Ada Vinson Bone) sister or cousin, not sure which, was named Lute Vinson. Lute's married name was Worsham (husband's unknown). She had a son Tommy Worsham. My ggrandfather, Jasper Bone, had a sister Mary Dolly Bone Wilmoth (b 1867). Mary Dolly Wilmoth had two daughters, Iler and Inor Wilmoth (b late 1880s since her mother was b 1867). The story is that Tommy Worsham shot Inor Wilmoth, she died 16 days later. The Bone family members were all b in Hickman Co, KY. I believe the shooting must have taken place in or around East Prairie, MO since the Bones and Vinsons moved there in the early 1900s. I have an old photo of Inor as an adult (18 to 25) so the incident must have taken place in the 1920s, another assumption. Lute's sister Margaret Vinson md my ggrandfather's brother George Washington Bone.

Vinson b 6 Jun 1842 KY & wife Mary L, b Oct 1855 KY as Zoda Vinson.  Zoda m Charlie Halcom Bailey.  In Hickman Co, KY birth records are 3 children: James J. Bailey b 13 Aug1916, mother Zoda Washum; Bettie Bailey b 26 Aug 1912, mother: Zoda Washame; Chas Bailey b 14 Mar 1915 mother: Zoda Washunn.  In Zion Cem, Hickman Co, KY are: Charlie Halcom Bailey; 1866-1917 & Zoda Worsham 1883 - 1934.

1B.1. Martin Newton Worsham b 18 Aug 1843 KY. (7-1850; 39-1870; 38-1880; 8/1843-1900; 63-1910) He served in the civil war as Newton N. Washum, a private in Co. F, 81^st & 61^st Illinois Infantry. He m Elizabeth L. Harper & d. 3 Jul 1912 IL. Elizabeth b. Jul 1840 NC. They are on the 1880 Franklin Co., IL Census. He is Newton Washam age 38, farmer & Elizabeth is age 43. They are in the 1900 Frankfort Twp, Franklin, IL Census he is Newt Worsham age 56 b Aug 1843 KY & Elizabeth is age 59 b Jul 1840 NC. They are in the 1910 Williamson Co., IL Census. He is age 63 & she is age 61. According to Leon A. Lacy, 2001, Elizabeth Harper b 22 Jul 1837 & d. 17 Nov 1911. He may be the Mac Worsham who was shot and killed Christmas Day by James Swits in Elk Prarie Township on Swits farm occupied by Marion Worsham, brother to Mac. Marion had won a lawsuit against Swits and there was bad blood. Mac was 28 years old and married. On 9 Jul 1904, F. M. Warsham applied for letters of Guardianship for the minors Barbara E. Warsham aged 13 on 12 Aug 1903 & Lena A. called Ruth Warsham aged 16 on 1 Feb 1904. F. M. Warsham (Worsham) states he is the father of the minors and wishes himself to be appointed guardian. That the minors have an interest in the real estate of Mary A. Boner which has been sold by the master-In Chancery and that the amount of money from the proceeds for the minors is about $350; also other personal property of value of $50. (Mary A. Williamson Co., IL, 1st marriage, d/o Marion Worsham and Elizabeth Boner) on Sep 7, 1902 at Marion Worsham's residence, Franklin Co, IL, by John A McClintock, Minister of the Gospel (both Fred and Mary were residing at Frankfort, Franklin Co, IL -- this was before West Frankfort took over as the main town; the marriage was probably in Frankfort) (Franklin Co, IL Marriages 1901-1902 & Franklin Co., Marriages vol 2, p. 142)  Fred is in the World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1918, living in West Frankfort, Franklin, Illinois b 29 Mar 1882 with blue eyes black hair and his wife name is Mary. In the 1920 Denning, Franklin, Illinois cens, Fred Hooper age 39 b IL coal miner, Mary age 34 b IL, Bevvie age 12 b IL dau.

1.4C.3. Grover Newton Worsham b. Feb 1888 Williamson Co., IL (12-1900) m Clyde Marvel 5 Nov 1908 Franklin Co., IL. (Franklin Co., Marriages Vol 3 p. 84)  Clyde apparently d abt 1909 as Grover was a widow in the 1910 census.  Grover d. 16 Jan 1920 West Frankfort, Franklin, Illinois.

1.4C.4. Barbara E. Worsham b. 12 Aug 1890 Williamson Co., IL. (9-1900)   Barbara md Floyd Henry Bowman 23 Sep 1909 Marion, Williamson, Illinois. They are in the 1920 Denning, Franklin Co, Illinois census where Floyd worked in a coal mine.  The man in dark clothing is Floyd Henry Bowman, photo courtesy Becky Bowman, 2005. Unfortunately, photos of Barbara Worsham have been lost.  Floyd was born with blue eyes, 17 Nov 1888 Albion, Edwards Co, Illinois & d Jun 1973 of Quincy, Adams Co, Illinois.  Barbara died of colon cancer 2 Jul 1950 Alton, Madison, Illinois, after having a cancerous breast removed.

Barbara & Floyd had seven children: Neva Bowman b abt 1913, Rebecca Elizabeth Bowman (Betty) b abt 1916, G. Moselle Bowman, Floyd Bowman Jr. b  3 Jul 1923 & d 27 Jan 2000 Orange Co., CA (CA death), Jack Bowman, Bill Dean Bowman & Joyce Bowman (Joy).  Bill Dean Bowman b Jul 1928 in W. Frankfort md Margaret Ilene Chastain & had seven children: Robert Alan Bowman, Barbara Ann Bowman, Jeffry Kent Bowman (my husband), Terry Neal Bowman, Gary Steven Bowman (deceased), Jeanne Dawn Bowman and Melissa Gay Bowman. Barbara's obit. is in the Alton Telegraph, 3 Jul 1950: 

Mrs. Barbara Bowman, wife of Floyd Bowman of 2314 Sunset, died at 6:30 a.m. Sunday at Alton Memorial hospital where she had been a patient since Saturday. Mrs. Bowman had been ill three years and the family had learned several weeks ago her condition was critical. She underwent surgery in 1948. Mrs. Bowman was born Aug. 12, 1890, a daughter of F. W. Worsham, at Herrin and was married Sept. 23, 1909 at Marion. The family moved from West Frankfort to Alton in 1933 and resided in Upper Alton until three years ago when they moved to the present address. She was a member of Main Street Baptist church and was active there until her health prevented her from attending. Young people acquainted with the children still residing at home, Jack, Billie and Joyce, enjoyed visiting in the Bowman home and Mrs. Bowman's jovial personality brought the young people there often. Her one desire was to live and see her children grown and established in life. The youngest child, Joyce, was graduated from Alton High School with the June class. Besides her husband and children residing at home she is survived by four other children, Mrs. Floyd Huffstutler, Mrs. Clyde Steele Jr, Mrs. Joseph Greenwall and Floyd Bowman Jr. , all of Alton; a sister, Mrs. Ada Barham of Johnson City. A sister, Mrs. Mary Willis of Alton preceded her in death a year ago. She also leaves 13 grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm Wednesday at Main Street Baptist Church by Rev Arthur Ulrich. Burial will be in the Upper Alton Cemetery. (Becky Bowman, 2005)
