Rison Bennett Yeatts, 95, of Altavista, died Saturday, March 11, 2006, at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Christine Worsham Yeatts. Born May 24, 1910, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Robert Lee Yeatts and Sabra Doss Yeatts. He was a member of Lynchburg Seventh Day Adventist Church, and a retired employee of the Lane Company with 50 years of service. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Kenneth O. Yeatts of Arlington, Texas, Elbert A. Yeatts of Evington, Randy T. Yeatts of Cullman, Alabama; two sisters, Myrtle Wade and Beulah Arthur, both of Altavista; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers and six sisters. A funeral service will be conducted Tues, Mar 14, 2006, at Finch & Finch Chapel by Pastor Dale Long. Interment will follow in Altavista Memorial Park.

Thurman, they had a daughter, Annie Lee Thurman, who m Jippy Y. Worsham, and, it appears, that the Raleigh Dawson, who married Dolly B. Worsham, was also a son of Matilda Vaughan and John B. Dawson.

Mrs Lois Evelyn Worsham Griffith of 4 Lithia Springs Ave, Stokesland, was pronounced dead on arrival at Memorial Hospital Saturday afternoon. She had a mild touch of the flu, but was able to work on Friday night. Her death was unexpected. Mrs Griffith age 41 years was born in Pittsylvania County, Apr 30, 1916, a daughter of John R Worsham and the late Lena Dawson Worsham. She had made her home in around Danville for the past thirty years, and was a member of the Stokesland Baptist Church. She was employed in the No 2 Card Room of the Dan River Mills. In 1933 she was married to Jesse Raymond Griffith. Besides her husband and her father, she is survived by four daughters: Frances Elaine Griffith, Patsy Lee Griffith, Margie Ann Griffith, and Rebecca Faye Griffith, all of the home; and four sons: S/Sgt Gene R Griffith of the US Marine Corps, Greeneville, South Carolina, William David Griffith, Donald Page Griffith, and Lawrence Keith Griffith, all of the home. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. Cecil Kitner of Pittsburg, PA; two brothers: Carlton Worsham and John R Worsham, Jr both of Baltimore, MD, and one grandson. Funeral services will be conducted from the Chapel of the Swicegood funeral home, Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock by the Rev Henry H Smith, Jr and the Rev S B Houghton. William C. first married Julia Vaughn, there were three children by this marriage namely: Dollie, James and John. His second wife was Parthenia Payne(my mother). There were six children by this marriage, namely: William H., Elizabeth, Susan, Sallie A., Samuel E., and Charles E. Henry Worsham married Emma Green. They had six children. Thomas Worsham married Susan Layne and they had seven children. John never married, he died in Petersburg while fighting in the Civil War. Archebald married Lelia Carr; they had eight children. If William Coleman Worsham was b 28 Nov 1828 then he was born before his parents were married. His year of birth is likely 1829. The 29 Mar 1905 letter from Sallie A. Worsham states: (Pam Heaton, 2001)
"William C. first married Julia Vaughn, there were three children by this marriage namely: Dollie, James and John. His second wife was Parthenia Payne (my mother). There were six children by this marriage, namely: William H., Elizabeth, Susan, Sallie A., Samuel E., and Charles E."
Therefore, William & Julia had an additional son named John. Also in the 29 Mar 1905 letter from Sallie A. Worsham is
"My father, William C., is doubtless the oldest member of our branch of the Worsham family. He is now seventy-six years old."
John William Worsham, 2005, wrote about his great-grandfather William Coleman Worsham who served in the Civil War:
"…(he) was a supply captain (owned a mill). We have his portrait in full uniform, sword, epaulets and all. … We had an epaulet, though it has been misplaced in a recent move. The various uniform items were distributed around the family, in the 1930's I think. No idea where the sword is, but the portrait shows it. He lived in Southern Virginia, but I do not know his unit, not even which army he was attached to."

After graduation he went to Texas with his closest friend, Randolph Lee Clark, Jr., who developed and ran the M. D. Anderson Hospital and Cancer Research Institute in Houston for 40 years. Randolph later became John's brother-in-law. Dr. John Worsham built the hospital in Kenedy, Karnes, TX about 1936 where his son, John William Worsham, Jr. was born. John was a young "country doctor" for a few years, then completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Santa Rosa Hospital in San Antonio, where he became only the third person in recorded history at that time to deliver a living child from a dead mother by emergency surgery. Dr. Worsham served in the U. S. Army Air Corps as a physician during World War II, moving in rank from 1st Lt. through Capt. to Major by war's end. He was an intense golfer and became close friends with cousin Lew Worsham. (See page 283) He had a distinguished medical career in San Antonio until he retired in 1972. His wife, Dorothy d at the age of 53 in San Antonio in May 1966. On 22 Dec 1966 he m 2nd) Celeste Edwards, age 49 in Guadalupe Co., TX, he was age 60. She may be Celeste M. He has been a clinical psychologist at Bellevue Hospital in New York City, at the Bryce Hospital in Tuscaloosa, AL, and served on the faculty of Texas Tech, The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, and was Director of Graduate Studies in Psychology at Trinity University. He is now active in the private clinical practice of psychology in San Antonio.
