1.  Peter Seth Worsham b abt 1809 VA md 1st) Harriet Evans abt 1838 SC. He md 2nd) Ann Bagnal Plowden SC. Descendants lived in Sumter Co., SC; Charleston Co., SC; Clarendon Co., SC., Harden Co., TN.

 

1.3. James Peter Worsham. Company I of the 25th Regiment of SC Volunteers was made up of the Clarendon Guard, organized Nov 1861, and mustered into the Confederate Army, 1 Jan 1862, as Captain E. N. Plowden's Company C, 21st Regiment, SC. E. N. Plowden was elected Captain 1 Jan 1862; resigned 1 May 1862 and was succeeded by Captain Butler. Peter Seth Worsham, father of Peter Worsham, later md. Ann Bagnal Plowden, who may be related to E. N. Plowden. Also known as the Eutaw Regiment, the 25th was organized during the winter of 1861-1862 from the 11th Battalion from Charleston and the Clarendon Guard from the middle region of SC. Under the command of General Johnson Hagood, Sep 1863, the 25th Regiment was deployed to defend Charleston. They were stationed at Camp Pemberton on James Island and were detailed to Fort Johnson, Fort Lamar at Successionville, Fort Sumter, Wagner Battery and Gregg Battery on Morris Island. The regiment had 4 killed and 14 wounded at Secessionville, and 16 killed, 124 wounded and 3 missing on Morris island from 10 Jul 10 to 6 Sep 1863. Peter Worsham, age 18, was killed in the battle on Morris Island 5 Sep 1863. At this time the regiment contained 36 officers and 491 men. Members of the 25th Regiment were captured on 7 Sep 1863 at the fall of Battery Wagner (Fort Wagner).

1.7.4.6. Annie Lee Worsham "Anne" b. abt 1919 of Clarendon, SC. (1 –1910) She md. 1st) Marvin Gibble Richardson & 2nd) John Peter Paszek. As a child she changed her name to Anne and maintained her first married name as an artist. (Anne Worsham Richardson, 2001)  Anne Worsham Richardson paintings have been shown in galleries and private collections throughout the United States, Canada, South America, England, France, Holland, Sweden, Austria, Switzerland, Japan and Germany. She was invited to the White House 24 Sep 1975 and was received by President Ford in the Oval Office. At that time, she was the only woman painter ever to be selected by the National Wildlife Federation, Washington, DC to receive the "Art Print of the Year Award." Her water color of the California Quail was selected for this honor and was published in National Wildlife Magazine in the 1970 fall issue. Eighteen of her paintings have been reproduced on National Wildlife Christmas cards. Robert Washam may be Robert Worsham on page 583. Robert m. 1st) Fannie Culley and they are known to have been the parents of Dennis Washam.

 

Robert m. 2nd)  Rebecca Morehouse.  Since Rebecca Morehead age 40-50 is found in the 1840 Monroe Co, KY census, they were married after 1840.  In her home were also 1 male age 90-100 & 1 female age 20-30 (Lucinda Morehead).

 

Robert m. 3rd) Sarah A. Hale 22 Apr 1869 Monroe Co., KY.   Sarah m. 1st) George W Sims. George was b abt 1835 KY, the son of Burrel and Jane Sims.  Sarah Hale age 17 KY is in the 1850 Monroe Co, KY cens, near Robert Washam living with her mother Mary Hale age 43 KY, and siblings Joseph age 20 KY, William age 13 KY, Nancy age 11 KY, John age 7 KY, Henry age 2 KY.  Robert & Sarah are in the 1870 Monroe Co, KY cens, with step children, Wm. Washam, Vancouver, A graveside service will be Wed at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cem for William "Bill" E. Washam, who d. Sun, May 5, 2002, in Vancouver. He was 87. An area resident since 1939, Mr. Washam b. Oct 1, 1914, in Louisville, Ky. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Esther, at home; two daughters, Anne Long of Anna, TX, and Selena Woodword of Vancouver; two sons, Max Cassada of Colonial Heights, Va., and Jack Gilbert of Vancouver; one sister, Irene of Michigan. Mr. Washam worked in the shipyards, for Lucky Lager Brewing for 20 years and was a painter before he retired. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

1. Thomas Washam b bef 1765. In the 1810 Mecklenburg Co, NC cens is Thomas Washam with neighbors Jonathan Potts, Wm. J. Davidson, Samuel Stanford, Wm. Moon, Furnance? Barnabas?, Jas Gillaspie, Jno Brown & Widow Washam. The probable inhabitants in the household were: 1m b. 1801-1810 (Thomas Washam), 1 m b. 1795-1800 (Essex Washam), 2 m b. 1785-1794 (Bennet Washam & Alexander Washam), 1m b. bef 1765 (Thomas Washam), 1 f b. 1795-1800 (Barbara Washam), 2 f b. 1785-1794 (Patsy Washam & Sarah Washam), 1f b. bef 1765 (wife unknown). He is not found in the 1820 Census, However, there is an older man, b. 1740-1750 living with Alexander Washam in the 1830 census who could be Thomas Washam. 

Of interest to this family is a Daniel Worsham, b 1765-1784, living in Mecklenburg Co, NC in 1810. Living with Daniel were: 3 m b 1801-1810, 2 m b 1795-1800, 1 f b 1801-1810, 1 f b 1765-1784, and neighbors were James Elveson, Lucy Harwood, John Warsham, Swenney? Bryant, Swim Silas.

Jeremiah Washam b bef 1774 is in the 1790 Salisbury District, Mecklenburg Co, NC census along with a m b bef 1774, 1 m b 1774-1790, & 3 f b bef 1774. Jeremiah could be closely related to John as John had a son named Jeremiah.

Sarah b 26 Jul 1792 d/o Robert Irwin and Elizabeth Eaton. Sarah's sister, Elizabeth Irwin md William Washam 14 Sep 1824 Rowan Co., NC. William is 1.5.1.3.1.6. & s/o John & Dicey Washam.

In the 1830 Mecklenburg Co, NC cens, is Alexander Washam b 1790-1800, 2 males b. 1825-1830 (unknown), 1 m b. 1740-1750 (this may be his father, Thomas Washam); 1 f b. 1825-1830 (Nancy Cowan Washam), 1 f b. 1790-1800 (wife, Sarah Catherine Irwin). Neighbors were Ephraim Morton, Joseph Martin, Peterson ?, Jno Leathis?, Elizabeth Washam, Jesee Page?, Charles Mitchel.

In the 1840 Mecklenburg Co, NC cens, Alexander Worsham b. 1780-90, 1 m b. 1830-1835 (Alexander), 1 m b. 1825-1830 (Thomas E.), 1 f b. 1825-1830 (Nancy Cowan Washam), 1 f b. 1790-1800 (wife, Sarah Catherine Irwin).

His wife Sarah is on the 1850 Census, age 57, b abt 1793, p 34. She is Sarah C. Warsham on the 1860 Charlotte, Mecklenburg Co., NC Census, p 605.

"In memory of Alexander Warsham who was born October 15th, 1789 and died 14 February 14th 1849 in the 60th year of his age." (Bethel Presb. Church Cemetery, Cornelius, Mecklenburg, NC records) His wife Sarah Catherine Irwin b 26 Jul 1792; d 13 Jul 1871 & bur Bethel Presb. Cem, Mecklenburg Co., NC. (Marsha H. Washam, China Grove, NC, 1999) Elson Irwin, 2000, wrote: "Robert Irwin b. ca 1760 Rowan Co, NC d. 1806 Iredell Co, NC s/o Christopher Irwin/Jane McDowell m. Elizabeth Eaton Feb. 22, 1783 d/o John Eaton (1716-1789). They had at least 7 children: 1. Enoch Irwin b. ca 1785 m. Sarah Clifford; 2. Abijah Irwin b. ca 1785-90; 3. Sarah Catherine Irwin b. 1792 d. 1871 m. Alexander Worsham; 4. Elizabeth Irwin b. 1796 m. William Worsham; 5. Elisha Irwin b. after 1796; 6. Isaac Irwin b. after 1798; 7. Polly Irwin buried in Jersey Co, IL. This Robert Irwin must have known or was related to Samuel Lynn Irwin or his parents. They lived in close proximity in North Carolina at about the same time. Also the Worsham family which married into this family was living on Rocky River (where Samuel L. Irwin's father and grandfather had property). Robert Irwin lived in Rowan Co, which split into Iredell Co. NC in 1783. It is likely that Alexander is a brother of Bennet Washam." On 29 Jul 1845, Alexander Warsham was named admistrator for Bennet Warsham, decd. (Mecklenburg Co, NC loose estate papers, box 263, in North Carolina State Archives, Raleigh, NC)

Alexander's children and grandchildren are named in a settlement dated 9 Sep 1872: "Nancy McLean vs. Sally & William Warsham: Alexander Warsham died intestate prior to 1860, the owner of land in controversy, leaving as his children and heirs in law the pltf Nancy, Alex Warsham Junr & _ Warsham, also a widow, Sally, who had ? in the premises. After the death of Alex the father, Alex Warsham the son & one of the heirs at law of Alex Warsham Senr, died having a last will and testament, duly admitted to probate, in which he demised all his estate, real ?, to his mother Sally for life & at her death, ? to his sister Nancy, the pltf. Nancy (do not know who this is) the mother is dead. When this state of fact, the question submitted is what interest has Nancy in the land which descends from her father Alex Warsham Senr, as foresaid, & under the will of her brother Alex'n Junr. I am of the opinion & do decide that Nancy the pltf is entitled to one third thereof as one of the heirs of her father, & to another third under the will of Alex. Warsham Junr. Therefore the pltf is entitled to two thirds of the proceeds of the sale of said property & Wm & Sally Warsham, who are the children of _ Warsham decd are entitled to the other third of the proceeds. W. P. Byrum Referee." (Mecklenburg Co., NC loose estate papers in North Carolina State Archives, Raleigh, NC) 

Alexander Graham Washam children:

1.1.1. Nancy Sarah Cowan Washam b 1826 & m. Ephraim Alexander McLean. They are in the 1850 Mecklenburg Co., NC Census in the household of Ephraim McLain. She is listed as Sarah age 28, #571. Ephraim & Nancy had 9 children. The family moved to Rockdale Co., GA in 1840 near the Presbyterian Camp Ground Smryna not far from Conyers, GA. He was s/o William McLean and Sarah Burton Graham who were md 26 Apr 1817 in Rowan Co. She is named in a 9 Sep 1872 complaint against her niece and nephew, Sally and William Washam. 

1.1.2. Thomas E. Washam b 1827 Mecklenburg Co, NC. According to a Rowan Co, NC book, section Robert Irwin & Desc. #533 by Frank Powers, his middle name was Eaton. His middle name is Espy in Bethel Presbyterian Church, Cornelius, NC Session Record Book #2, p 16, Infants baptized (1829-1838): "Thomas Espy Washam Apr 1830, died 1861."

 

In the 1850 Ramah, Mecklenburg Co, NC cens, Thomas is age 32 and living with R. H. Johnston. Thomas E. Washum md Martha C. Brittain, 9 Jul 1851, at Monroe, Union Co, NC by Rev. William E. Patterson. (The Charlotte Journal, Charlotte, NC, Marriage Notices, 23 Jul 1851) Martha was b. abt 1833 NC. Thomas E. is in the 1860 Charlotte, Mecklenburg Co, NC cens p266, #1411. 

 

The Times Newspaper (Guilford Co, NC) has Thomas' obit:

"Jul 6, 1861 Died: In the Town of Charlotte, NC on the 8th of Jun, of Typhoid fever, after an illness of two weeks, Thos. E. Washam, Esq.: aged 33 years. The subject of this notice was an honest man, and a most worthy and excellent citizen. He leaves an affectionate wife and two promising children to mourn their great loss; and many friends to regret his death. We trust that his spirit is now enjoying the blessed reward of the just in Heaven, free from the toil and pain of this fleeting life; and that a merciful God will protect and bless his afflicted companion and her orphan children."

Martha C Warsham, 12 Apr 1866, was apptd. guardian of William A. B. Warsham and Sarah D. Warsham orphans of Thomas E. Warsham. (Mecklenburg Co, NC loose estate papers in North Carolina State Archives, Raleigh, NC) The 20 Nov 1871 Mecklenburg Co, NC complaint by Nancy C. McLean mentions Mrs. Martha Warsham as the guardian of Sallie Warsham & William Warsham, both under the age of 21. Thomas is listed as _ Warsham, decd., without a first name in the 9 Sep 1872 complaint by his sister Nancy McLean against his children, William and Sally Washam.

1.1.2.1. William A. B. Washam "Willie" b abt. 1853 Mecklenburg, NC & d. 5 Jul 1886 Charlotte, Mecklenburg, NC. (7-1860; 17-1870) He is in the 1870 Charlotte, Mecklenburg Co, NC cens. as Wm. Washam, pauper, living with Adam Yandle. Mecklenburg Co, NC loose estate papers, 20 Nov 1871, has a complaint by Nancy C. McLean that mentions Mrs. Martha Warsham as the guardian of Sallie Warsham & William Warsham, both under the age of 21. Martha C Warsham, 12 Apr 1866, was apptd guardian of William A. B. Warsham and Sarah D. Warsham orphans of Thomas E. Warsham. 

1.1.2.2. Sarah D. Washam "Sallie" b 14 Feb 1857 Mecklenburg, NC & d. 24 Mar 1932 Charlotte, Mecklenburg, NC. (4-1860; 13-1870) Mecklenburg Co, NC loose estate papers, 20 Nov 1871 Mecklenburg Co, NC complaint by Nancy C. McLean mentions Mrs. Martha Warsham as the guardian of Sallie Warsham & William Warsham, both under the age of 21. Sallie m. Hillory Madison Wilder 26 Jan 1876 Johnston Co, NC. He was b abt. 1851, d 15 Jun 1924 & she d 24 Mar 1932 of Charlotte, Mecklenburg, NC.

1.1.3. Alexander Warsham b abt 1834 Mecklenburg Co., NC. (16-1850; 26-1860) md Sally C. Alexander. When he was age 27, a farmer, 6 ft. tall, he enlisted in the CSA on 16 Sep 1861, at Camp Fisher for one year. He served as a Private in Co. C 37 NC Regm't.12 He was sick at the General Hospital Camp Winder, Richmond, VA from 6 Jun to 12 Jun 1862. On 27 Jun 1862, he was admitted to Chimborazo Hospital #3 in Richmond, VA with a gunshot in the lungs. He d 8 Jul 1862 in the Battle at Richmond. He left a will and mentions his sister Nancy C. McLure. Alexander Washam, decd., is named in a 9 Sep 1872 complaint by his sister Nancy McLean against their niece and nephew, Sally and William Washam.
