William Eugene Washam,
born June 19, 1925, in Metropolis, Illinois died on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at
Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. He is preceded in death by his
beloved wife Peggy Jolene Washam, formerly Tweedy, of Douds, Iowa and parents
William H. Washam and Lucy Inboden Washam of Metropolis, Illinois. He is survived
by his children and their families, Terri Wallace of Harriman, Tennessee; Bobbie
Somerville of Sherwood, Oregon; Bill Washam of Cape Coral, Florida; Kelly Washam
of Tualatin, Oregon; Jody Faig of Richmond, Virginia; eight grandchildren, two
great granddaughters, sisters Thelma Prather of Harrisburg, Illinois; and Wilma
Williams of Golconda, Illinois, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a beloved
father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, son, husband and friend
and he will truly be missed. He was a graduate of Parsons College in Fairfield,
Iowa and a US Navy Veteran who served in WWII. He was at peace with God prior to
his death and is now at rest with the Lord in heaven. Known as Gene, Bill and
Wash, he lived his 83 years to the saying, "Ain't life grand, every moment's a
pleasure" and passed this way of life onto his family. His remains will be laid to
rest with his wife Peggy at Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Douds, Iowa at a memorial
service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the
Spina Bifida Association.
